In a world in the throes of conflicts between Éclatants, Fkions and Rebelles, the young Éclatant shepherd, Baal, finds himself forced to follow three Rebelles in search of the oulalouk. Anyone who succeeds in capturing this legendary beast is endowed with magic powers. Then begins a long march, during which the Rebelles and the young Éclatant must learn to get along with each other in order to achieve their goal. Baal believes he will be rescued by his peers, but he starts to have doubts. The encounter with the Fkions injects new tensions into the small group.

Despite a few slow passages, Les chasseurs d'éternité tells an interesting story with many developments: it is the story of a quest where strangers must learn to live together. Cultural and religious differences are the sources of tension between peoples. Dialogue may provide the path for conflict resolution. Trying to appreciate the values of others without denigrating them, taking small steps can help to lower tensions  --  this is the message conveyed in the story. The theme of war is ever present and the author asks us to reflect on the reality of these differences.
