Feuille de chou tells the tale of a little mouse called Cendrine who was born in the car of a famous reporter. Thanks to her unique family home, Cendrine travels widely and develops a real taste for adventure. Deep in her heart, she longs to become a journalist herself. Then the mouse family moves into the basement of a country house. Each Sunday, Cendrine receives a copy of the Choux Gras newspaper, distributed by its editor-in-chief Caldo de Savoie. Cendrine's itchy feet and desire for freedom get the better of her, and she leaves home to explore new avenues. Monsieur de Savoie, who is always short of breath and who complains about being too old for the job, is thinking of retiring. Cendrine steps in to replace him -- a marvellous challenge for this "atomic mouse!" This fast-paced book is enlivened by expressive black-and-white illustrations. -CM |
