It gives me great pleasure to offer you the National Library of Canada's Read Up On It kit. Distributed each fall for the past five years, the kit is intended to raise awareness of Canadian literature and encourage students to enjoy the fascinating world of books.

To mark the International Year of the World's Indigenous People, this year's kit focuses on books dealing with aboriginal peoples in Canada. The National Library of Canada, in cooperation with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs, has prepared a list of the best children's books about the first inhabitants of this country. The kit also includes contains a list of children's books that have received national and regional literary awards, as well as the selections of the Canadian Children's Book Centre and Communication-Jeunesse. These lists offer insight into recent Canadian publishing for children. I am sure this will be very useful to librarians and teachers for promoting the joy of reading.

I hope you have a good Read Up On It season. Feel free to contact us if you need additional material or want to give us your comments and suggestions on the content of the kit.
