Message from the National Librarian

Photo: Marianne Scott

It is with great pleasure that I present you with the 1994-1995 edition of the Read Up On It kit. This edition celebrates the International Year of the Family. It contains not only a complete list of Canadian children's books that have won literary awards, but also a list of some noteworthy books that have been published recently in Canada and have family themes. The two lists were prepared by Dale Simmons from the National Library. I am grateful to Ms. Simmons for the effort she put into this work. It is my pleasure to point out that a new partner, the National Literacy Secretariat, has become involved in the program. The Secretariat will handle promotion and distribution of the Read Up On It kit to organisations active in the area of literacy. The kit, which was launched six years ago and is already much appreciated in schools throughout the country, will reach an even wider audience with this collaboration.

I would like to thank the television networks that produce and broadcast public service messages about Read Up On It each year. I hope that you will be pleased with this kit. Please feel free to communicate to us any comments you may have, in order that we may provide you with a product that meets your needs.
