It's such a blessing to have a great teacher! Little by little the students of this class discover the eccentric look, funny accent and unusual abilities of their new teacher. With such a teacher, the children never ask questions, even when they visit him at home and find a menagerie of strange little creatures -- until the day when he arrives in a flying saucer and they all want to fly away with him in his strange machine. The full-page illustrations by Dominique Jolin are sure to entrance young readers.
CRUELLE CRUELLINACAROLE TREMBLAY

In this book, the heroes' names are as funny as their adventures. Their curiosity leads them into the city's sewers where they meet a scary witch. She likes to keep children as prisoners to use as brooms, tables and chairs. The story is full of strange-sounding witch terminology such as sour-mouse soup, sewer-rat ragout, bat wee-wee, and stinky bullfrog skin that will make young readers laugh. Will our heroes manage to free the little children? A magic potion made of children's tears and magical fertilizer inflates the prisoners like popcorn and allows them to escape. Dominique Jolin's splendid illustrations complement this spooky tale perfectly.
LA NOUVELLE MAÎTRESSEDOMINIQUE DEMERS

When a group of students welcome their new teacher, Mademoiselle Charlotte, they notice that she seems a bit strange: her inseparable companion is a pebble named Gertrude. The children soon discover that their new teacher is simply different from the others they have and they actually start enjoying French and math lessons. All young readers will wish they, too, could have a teacher like Mademoiselle Charlotte.
BIBOP ET QUE ÇA SAUTE!RAYMOND PARENT
|
Bibop the duck, his wife and son and their larger-than-life dog, Gaeuh, have a series of adventures in this comic book. Each page tells a different story in five or six frames and the story usually involves some misadventure of Bibop's own making, whether it is challenging a hunter to a fight or ruining the kitchen when he tries to cook. The simple illustrations are colourful and full of action. While the depiction of his wife, Odile, who is constantly in hair curlers, is an outdated stereotype, this old-fashioned style of cartooning continues to appeal to young readers.

Sara leads an eventful life, to say the least. She wakes up from a coma with the impression that she glimpsed another dimension but escaped death because she was not yet ready to follow the "white light." These trials help her to grow. She finds strength in her new-found maturity, which helps her when her mother dies and she is confronted with premonitions that trouble, but, ultimately guide her. Fortunately, Sara's aunt is there to support her. Sara gets the part of Juliette in the school play and Emmanuel (who plays Romeo) courts her. The play brings a mysterious new dimension to the story and helps the reader better understand Sara's development.
LE LONG SILENCESYLVIE DESROSIERS
|
The text of this book is a long monologue by Mathieu at the grave of his friend Alice, who committed suicide. Mathieu remembers all their years of friendship. He tells her that he doesn't understand why she took her own life and talks about his grief, his outrage at her suicide and his love for her. Mathieu's reflections reveal much about his character and philosophy of life. He is angered by his friend's action and he wants to live, to meet challenges and feel joy - in short, to experience the simple pleasures of just being alive. He accepts what Alice has refused without reservation. Why? Mathieu's thoughts touch on many subjects, often with great insight.
