In January of that year, the snow had given way to a mixture of rain and mist, which turned into freezing rain. Noémie's chances of building an ice house had melted like snow dissolved by the rain. The ice storm caused a blackout, forcing Noémie, her grandmother and their neighbours to organize ways of dealing with the lack of heating and find new ways to prepare meals. The obligation to help one another during the disaster allows them to develop new friendships, leading to new love.
