This is the story of Tom Caribou, an 11-year-old boy, and a group of brave lumberjacks working in a forest camp in the Ottawa Valley, 300 miles away from home. The story begins just before midnight on New Year's Eve, when Tom Caribou and some of the men, feeling sad and homesick, are whisked off to the Beauce region in a flying canoe!
This new adaptation of a French-Canadian folktale told by Roch Carrier is mesmerizing. The bright colours and simple style of the illustrations match the story perfectly.
