Leaving from Kuujjuaq for Aupaluk, the Beaver, a small bush plane with four passengers aboard, crashes in the middle of a forest during a violent winter storm. For the four survivors, the crash marks the beginning of an extraordinary adventure in the great northern lands of Quebec. The narrator, a Métis, takes control of the situation because of his great knowledge of nature and survival instinct. He discovers a trap line which leads the group to a cabin, somewhere in the endless white desert. Only two of them will escape with their lives. The narrative style of the story captivates us from the first few lines with an intensity that takes us alongside the prisoners of the cold north to their final destiny. More than just an adventure story, Michel Noël causes us to reflect on the basic principles of human existence: life, death and love… All of these can be found at the centre of this modern tragedy.

It's Gabriel and Josiane's mother's birthday and the twins are not really sure what to get her. On their way home from school, Josiane thinks that she has come up with the perfect gift - a baby. Yes, but where do you find a baby? Nothing could be easier! Why not take Madame Laprise's baby? He is so cute… and so the story continues with a series of funny events where the two kidnappers learn that taking care of a baby is not all that easy. Luckily, the story has a happy ending and baby Charlotte finally returns home to her mother. This light-hearted and amusing story gives the impression that Hélène Grégoire really enjoyed writing it. The very young will certainly enjoy the funny situations in which our two heroes entangle themselves. The black-and-white drawings, sketched with large strokes, lend a touch of innocence that goes perfectly with the story.

Her realistic style, which is devoid of complacency, brings out the pain and solitude of an adolescent who is eventually able to see life in a new way and slowly begin to feel happiness.

Even before this book, illustrated by Stéphane Jorish, is opened, the reader is mesmerized by the illustration on the front cover: there is a picture of a young girl magically coming down from the sky, floating above a mysterious boat. Charlotte et l'île du Destin is the story of young Charlotte who lands on an island inhabited by adults only. With a desire to discover other worlds and meet children at any cost, she constructs a ship and embarks on an adventure with Zig, her dog-dragon. Together they travel to strange worlds. Some are frightening, while others are strange, for instance in the Cité-du-temps-qui-passe (City-where-time-goes-by) everyone is in a hurry. But our two heroes manage to find their way to l'île du Destin (the Island of Destiny). Olivier Lasser has written a fantasy cleverly intertwined with travel, discovery and the quest for identity. The magnificent illustrations are like fragments of dreams that carry us off to a new world with their poetry and magic. The subtle play of colour and the elongated format of the book give them a new perspective.
